Crochet cadigan




Crochet cardigan:
 this is a lovely sweater with collar, full sleeves and pockets.i have used half double crochet stitches to make this sweater, it gives beautiful texture and no holes.this is a perfect cardigan/sweater for chilly weather.
this pattern is for 4-5 year old, you can make it smaller or larger by changing hook size.i have used 5mm crochet hook with worsted weight yarn.

material you will need for this project:

Materials:

 Dusky pink color Aran(worsted weight )yarn
Off white color  Aran(worsted weight )yarn
5mm crochet hook
5 buttons
yarn needle
pair of scissors
4 stitch marker

special terms:
half double crochet=hdc
slip stitch=ss
chain=ch
stitch=st

pattern :
 make a chain of 22 stitches,main color.
row 1:chain 1, hdc ch1 hdc in 2nd chain from hook, place a stitch marker in ch 1 space, hdc ch1 hdc in next stitch place stitch marker in ch1 space,1 hdc in next 18 stitches, hdc ch1 hdc in last two stitches, place stitcher marker in chain space.
Row 2:
Ch1 make 1 hdc in first stitch, hdc ch1 hdc in ch1 space, place stitch marker in ch space, 1 hdc in next 2 stitches, hdc ch1 hdc in ch space, place stitch marker in ch space,1 hdc in next 20 stitches, hdc ch1 hdc in chain space, place stitch marker in ch space,1 hdc in next 2 stitches, hdc ch1 hdc in chain space, place stitch marker in chain space,
Row 3-19:
Follow row 2.
Row 20.
Ch1 ,1 hdc in all stiches before ch1 space/stitch marker, ss in ch 1 space, ch2,skip all the stiches before next ch space/stitch marker(2nd), ss in ch space, 1 hdc in all stitches before next ch space/stitch marker(3rd), ss in ch space, ch2 ,skip all the stitches before next ch space/stitch marker(4th), ss in ch space,1 hdc in all the remaining stitches.
Body:
 Row 1:
1 hdc in all stiches across, 1 hdc in each chain(shoulder join).
Row 2-40:
1hdc in all stitches across.

Border/button band
Place 1 stitch marker in row 20 from top on both sides.(right and left)
Using off white.
 Row 1:Join the yarn in bottom left corner facing right side out, ch 1, 1 sc in every stitch before stitch marker,1 hdc from stitch marker to next stitch marker,1 sc in all the remaining stitches.
Row 2-3: 1sc in every sc,1 hdc in every hdc.
Row 4:
Mark the places for button hole, at marked places chain 2 skip 2 stiches for button hole and make  a stitch in next stitch. follow row 2.
Round 5:follow round 2, make 1 stich in each chain of button hole.
Round 6:follow round 2.
 Sleeves:use off white
Round1:
join the yarn in shoulder(see video),ch1 1hdc in every stitch, ss on top of ch1 to join the round.
Round 2: (see video for help)
 ch1,hdc 2 tog(hdc decrease) in next 4 stitches,1 hdc in all stiches leaving last 4 hdc, hdc 2 tog(hdc decrease) in last 4 stitches, ss in ch1.
Round 3-25:
1 hdc in every stitch.
Pocket:
Make a chain of 15 stitches using off white color
Row 1: 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook,1hdc in all stitches across.
Row 2 -10:
1 hdc in every stitch.

  1. I cannot wait to try this for my grandson and niece! I'm a little nervous because I usually only do blankets, throws, hats, scarves and mittens, etc...
    I used to do baby outfits, dresses, booties etc...however, have not made these in almost 20 yrs.

  2. hi all im making this right now super nice im wondering i love the way the increases are done shall i maje a longer chaine for adult size or just keep adding rows til right size for arm holes

  4. Your written pattern is very different from your video for example in row 2 of written pattern there is no mention of 4 HDC whereas in the Video there is mention. To me this was confusing as I cannot follow the video and the written pattern was not working out for me! Please correct this.

  5. Could you please give me the directions for Row 3 and 4, step by step? I am struggling with the increase at the beginning and end of the rows. Also, does the number of double crochets go up by 2 each row?
