Lilac Dreams Crochet Cardigan Pattern

Materials Needed

Color Sequence
Follow this sequence throughout the entire project:
- Rows 1–2: Lilac
- Row 3: White
- Rows 4–5: Mint Green
- Row 6: White
- Rows 7–8: Lilac (Repeat this cycle)
Back Panel
Foundation: Using the 4 mm hook and Lilac yarn, make 38 chains.
Row 1: Double crochet (DC) in the 3rd chain from the hook, then DC in the next stitch. Chain 1, skip 1 stitch, DC in the next 2 stitches. Repeat across the row. If you have an extra stitch at the end, work 1 DC into it.
Row 2: Chain 2 and turn. DC in the first 3 stitches. Chain 1, skip the chain-1 space, DC in the top of the next 2 stitches. Repeat across the row.
Rows 3–20: Repeat the Row 2 pattern while following the Color Sequence above. Complete a total of 20 rows.
Front Panels (Make 2)
The front panels are worked identically for the first 8 rows, then decreases are made to create a V-neckline.
Foundation: Make 20 chains.
Rows 1–8: Repeat the same pattern used for the Back Panel (2 DC, Ch 1, Skip 1). Follow the color sequence.
V-Neck
Decreases (Rows 9–16)
You will decrease one stitch every row on the neck edge only.
Right Front Panel: Make decreases on the left side of the panel.
- Row 9: Work normally and decrease at the end of the row.
- Row 10: Chain 2, then decrease over the first two stitches. Continue the pattern.
- Rows 11, 13, 15: Decrease at the end of the row.
- Rows 12, 14, 16: Decrease at the start of the row.
Left Front Panel: Make decreases on the right side of the panel.
- Rows 9, 11, 13, 15: Decrease at the start of the row.
- Rows 10, 12, 14, 16: Decrease at the end of the row.
Rows 17–20: Stop decreasing. Work these rows even in the normal pattern (2 DC, Ch 1, Skip 1) to match the back panel's height.
Sleeves (Make 2)
Foundation: Make 27 chains (or more if you prefer a wider sleeve).
Rows 1–15: Follow the same pattern as the Back Panel (2 DC, Ch 1, Skip 1) and the Color Sequence for a total of 15 rows.
Assembly
Shoulders: Place front panels on the back panel with right sides together. Use a tapestry needle and white yarn to stitch the shoulders together.
Sleeves: Align the center of the sleeve panel with the shoulder seam. Stitch the sleeve to the front and back panels.
Sides: Turn the cardigan inside out. Start stitching from the end of the sleeve, go through the underarm, and continue down to the bottom of the cardigan.
Ribbing
Switch to the 3 mm hook and White yarn.
Front and Collar Ribbing: Join yarn at the bottom left front. Chain 6.
Row 1: Single crochet (SC) in the 2nd chain from hook and in each chain (5 SC). Slip stitch into the next space on the cardigan edge to join.
Row 2: Slip stitch into the next space, chain 1, turn. SC in the back loop of each of the 5 stitches.
Buttonholes: To create a buttonhole, chain 2 and skip 2 stitches within a ribbing row, then SC in the next stitch. Continue this around the collar and down the other side.
Bottom Ribbing: Join yarn at the bottom right front. Work one SC in each stitch across the bottom edge to the left side. For a longer cardigan, you can repeat the ribbed SC technique used for the collar here.
