🧶 Materials

  • Yarn: DK weight – BELLISSIMA by Stylecraft (Shade: 3978 Flaming Fuchsia, 200g)

  • Hook: 3 mm crochet hook

  • Tapestry needle (for sewing and weaving in ends)

  • Stitch markers

  • 1 button for fastening

💡 You can substitute with any soft DK-weight yarn suitable for baby garments, such as Paintbox DK Cotton or Sirdar Snuggly DK.

📏 Gauge

24 stitches × 11 rows = 4" (10 cm) × 3.25" (8.25 cm) in hdc blo

✨ Stitch Definitions

🧵 Half Double Crochet in Back Loop Only (hdc blo)

→ This creates a beautiful ribbed texture perfect for garments.

🧶 Front Post Treble Crochet (fp tr)

Yarn over twice, insert hook from front to back around the post of the stitch below, yarn over, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through 2 loops at a time (3 times).
→ This creates a raised ridge on the front for decorative ribbing.

🪡 Back Post Treble Crochet (bp tr)

Yarn over twice, insert hook from back to front around the post of the stitch below, yarn over, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through 2 loops at a time (3 times).
→ This creates a recessed ridge behind the fabric, perfect for alternating rib texture.

  • The bolero is worked sideways (not bottom-up), starting from the hem.

  • The back and front panels are worked as one piece, and the sleeves are added later.
