How to crochet a granny square

Welcome to my blog! Today, I’m sharing an easy granny square crochet pattern, perfect for beginners who want to learn how to crochet a granny square. This step-by-step crochet tutorial will guide you through every round using a 4mm crochet hook and cotton DK yarn.

This free crochet pattern is ideal for creating blankets, throws, cushions, scarves, or DIY crochet projects. Pattern Instructions

Round 1:

  1. Chain 4.

  2. Make 3 double crochets (dc) into the 4th chain from the hook.

  3. Chain 2, 3 dc in the same space, chain 2 – repeat 2 more times. You should now have a set of 4 groups of 3 dc.

  4. Join with a slip stitch on top of the first chain 4.

Round 2:

  1. Chain 2, turn your work.

  2. In the chain-2 corner space, make (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc).

  3. Skip the next set of 3 dc, then repeat (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next chain-2 corner space.

  4. Join with a slip stitch on top of the initial chain 2.

Round 3:

  1. Repeat Round 2.

  2. You will notice extra spaces in the middle of each side. Make 3 dc in each of these  spaces.

  3. In every corner, work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc).

Round 4:

  1. Work 3 dc in each space.

  2. In each corner space, make (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc).

Note:
You can make your granny square as large as you like! For larger squares, continue adding rounds: in the middle of each side, make 3 dc in each space, and in corners, work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc).
