Denim Bear Baby Cardigan

A Top-Down Seamless Pattern (0-3M to 2 Years)

This modern baby cardigan uses the Lemon Peel Stitch (alternating sc and dc) to create a pebbled, knit-look texture. Worked from the top-down with a 3mm hook, it is warm, sturdy, and perfect for little boys.

Hook: 4.0 mm
Yarn: DK Weight (Denim Blue)
Difficulty: Intermediate
Stitch: Lemon Peel (sc, dc)

1. The Setup (Foundation)

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Work Lemon Peel (sc, dc) across specified Front stitches. In next stitch, work Corner [sc, ch 2, sc]. Repeat for Sleeves and Back according to the chart.

2. The Yoke & Body

The Yoke: Work in Lemon Peel rows. In every ch-2 corner, work [sc, ch 2, sc]. Continue until raglan diagonal depth is reached (10cm for 0-3M).

The Split: Work across Front, skip sleeve stitches, Chain 4, work across Back, skip sleeve, Chain 4, work across final Front.

The Body: Continue Lemon Peel until total length is reached.

3. The Sleeves

Round 1: Join yarn at underarm. Work Double Crochet in the underarm chain stitches, then Lemon Peel around the rest of the sleeve. Sl st to join.
Round 2 (Decrease): Ch 2. 3DC-Together in same space. Lemon Peel around. End with 3DC-Together. Sl st to join.
Sleeve Length: Continue Lemon Peel until length (0-3M: 13cm | 3-6M: 16cm | 6-12M: 19cm | 12-18M: 21cm | 18-24M: 24cm).
Cuff: Finish with 4 rows of SC in back loops only.

4. The Button Band

Rows 1-2: SC in every stitch along the front openings.
Row 3 (Buttonholes): SC in 4 sts. *Ch 2, skip 2 sts, SC in next 6 sts*. Repeat * to * to end.
Row 4: SC in every stitch (work 2 SC in the ch-2 spaces).

5. The Hood

Join yarn at neckline. Work Lemon Peel rows until height is reached (0-3M: 17cm | 3-6M: 19cm | 6-12M: 21cm | 12-18M: 23cm | 18-24M: 25cm). Fold top edge and slip stitch closed from the inside.

6. Bear Ears (Make 2)

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6).
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12).
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next* repeat around (18).
Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next* repeat around (24).
Rnd 5-9: Sc in each st around (24).
Fold flat and sew to the top corners of the hood.
